As a part of the Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB), there is a whole other calendar of events and courses.
Kyu Grade Courses
White belts to Purple belts, or 'Kyu Grades' (que grades), can go on training courses in the local area. These courses are taught by guest Instructors and are often longer than our regular classes.
Although we hold our own Kyu Grade courses throughout the year, there are still many opportunities to travel to do more training. As part of the KUGB family, you have access to any Kyu Grade courses in the local area.
Week-Long Training Courses
These courses are Monday-Friday courses with multiple lessons a day taught by the top Senseis in the KUGB. They have separate classes for each level of ability and are a great experience for anyone. There are two courses:
Spring Karate Course
Train With The Champions- Torbay, Devon
Each year in the Easter Holidays we travel down to Devon to take part in the KUGB Spring Karate Course. We wake up bright and early to train with the best Instructors from around the country, whilst also taking time to bond as a club by going out for Fish and Chip nights, cinema trips, or even just a nice walk down the beach!
This course also hosts a Kata Competition on the Thursday afternoon, bo-staff classes for beginners and intermediates, Grading classes for those taking Black Belt, and a Black Belt Grading on the Friday. It's a great opportunity to be immersed in Karate and to expand your knowledge in a short amount of time.
This course takes place in the Torbay Leisure Centre, close by to activities such as the Dartmouth Steam Railway, Paignton Zoo, Compton Castle, Pirate's Bay Mini-Golf, and, sometimes, the Spring Karate Course lands on the opening week of Splashdown Quaywest Waterpark- complete with opening day fireworks that can be seen from the Leisure Center.
Karate Summer School
Train With The Champions- Lancaster
In August we travel up to Lancaster University to take part in the KUGB Karate Summer School. This is one week full of training under the best Instructors from around the country.
This course also hosts their All-Star's Kid's Competition on the Thursday afternoon, which involves running races, basketball, and more! As well as this, there are bo-staff classes for beginners and intermediates, Grading classes for those taking Black Belt, and a Black Belt Grading on the Friday.
This course takes place at Lancaster University, a short drive from Lancaster Castle, and an hours drive from Blackpool Pleasure Beach Amusement Park. As well as this, the Sports Centre has a swimming pool and rock-climbing wall.
